November 5th is your last chance to catch La Condicion Humana (The Human Condition) at Vermillion.

bARTer Sauce trader and supporter, Kelly Lyles' artwork is featured in the show (and The Stranger recently featured art from the show as well). I attended the opening night reception and took a few pictures for you to enjoy. Read more about the show via the press release below:

Kelly Trades Me Sequin Horse for Totem Pole Trophy

Kelly Lyles

Kelly Lyles is awesome.

She stopped by my old studio on the night before the First Thursday Art Walk to bring by a horse picture made out of stick pin sequins. I showed her the new art studio I'm moving to and told her how disappointed I was that I couldn't afford to paint it metallic gold. She said, "Why don't you just paint it gold and then throw glitter on it?"

Kelly's Story about the Carnival Horse:

The tasteful Carnival horse was left in a Ballard FREE bin by friends of mine that were moving, & have a 'bad art' collection (no, none of mine). Since my yard is filled with large, plastic, pseudo-carnival horses, I thought he needed rescuing.

My ever-annoying interview questions.

At least I actually thought of the interview questions this time and didn't try and make the person trading with me write their own weird questions and then answer them. I did that to Nik. Ha!

Q. Do you like sandwiches? If yes, what's your favorite kind?
A. I absolutely loved grilled sandwiches and I am a sandwich freak.

bARTer Sauce Trade

Kelly hauled the "Toylet" to the May First Thursday Art Walk.

We've been trying to get together and make the trade all week because she's had it rolling around in her car. It never worked out, so she had to live with a toy-covered toilet rockin' around in the back of her art car. Poor Kelly. She did get to take "Parisite" home, so I think she'll be okay.

Kelly's story:

"The TOYLET was spawned by a 'decorate a comode' contest at SEATTLE Second Use, (if you haven't been, you should. It's a very cool shop near the South Seattle dump that has salvaged building supplies - even some antique ones - for more reasonable prices than similar venues). OK, enough with the ad. The point being, I was trying to think of a theme, when I passed a yard sale (I'm always stopping to scrounge stuff for my Artcars). That sale was on it's last day and very picked over but there were giant moving boxes filled with toys marked "FREE." Bingo, a concept is born.

Okay, I love Kelly Lyles.

We all know that. She's been a huge supporter of bARTer Sauce from the beginning. And because of that, I decided to consider this trade offer - a cat shaped lawn ornament for the awesomest lamp ever made out of popsicle sticks and rhinestones.

Kelly's story that came with the Shameful Cat Shaped Lawn Art:

It's after midnight, I stop being funny at 12. I can either get online tomorrow night at 11 pm to trade, or just go with the facts tonight.

Okay Kelly.

Seriously.

I'm only doing this because you've been such a good friend to The Sauce.

But I have to tell you.

We are definitely EVEN now.

Kelly trades me a MYSTERY ITEM in exchange for a giant, inflatable cell phone

Two Women Standing Next To a Giant Inflatable Cell Phone

I really can't say enough good things about Kelly Lyles.

She is truely one of the most interesting, friendly people I've ever met. Plus, as an added bonus, she's one of the only actual artists who smells what The Sauce is cookin'. And for that, I couldn't be more grateful.

Grab Bag

Box of question marks

First, you can't "grab" anything out of the bag.

Second, there is no bag. Well what is it then? Wouldn't you like to know! This is bARter Sauce's first (and possibly only) blind trade. I can't tell you what it is before you trade for it (well, I could, but I'm not going to).

Just send me a trade offer and if I pick you, you'll get to see what all the mystery is about. I'll give you a hint though: it involves ants. Not real ones. Artistic ones.
