Gary likes steampunk stuff.

I remember when there was a resurgence of steampunk interest a year or so ago -- or at least that's when I noticed it. I saw the word "steampunk" everywhere and I had no idea what it was. Now I have a better idea. Or at least I know enough to know that I want a freaking monocle. Oh yes.

Gary's Story that Came with the Steampowered Top Hat to Increase Your Thinking Power:

I was attending a Steampunk costume party, and wanted to make a vintage thinking cap. Since electricity was new back then, I thought that instead of a light bulb, it would have a steam engine. After several attempts at making something I came upon the idea of putting the engine inside the hat, instead of on top.

Brit and I go way back. We used to work together at Intiman Theatre. She designed the bARTer Sauce logo.

We've consumed beers at the same time together. She's the one who got Colin's unfortunate paper mache hedgehog and finally ripped it open to find the surprise inside.

And once, just once, I convinced her to get on stage at a Laffhole show and tell me a story about an item she wanted to trade to bARTer Sauce.

Temple's story of the first thing she can remember that surprised her:

"When I'd just learned to open doors by myself, I was going into the backyard of my family home and nearly put my hand on a large, white spider. My mother heard this haunting low bellow of what seemed like a scream of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa as I recoiled in surprise.

Stacy Trades me A Faux-Steam Punk Box for Felted Creatures

Stacy and her evil ladybird prepare their minions for an evening of fighting goo

Stacy came to the May First Thursday Art Walk to trade me her Faux-Steampunk box.

She was trying to make it steampunk and then when she showed it to her (possibly mean) friend, her friend said it couldn't be steampunk.

Whatever!?

Who cares what's steampunk and what isn't steampunk?

Apparently not me.

Patrick came by First Thursday with his wife Tina.

Actually, he dropped her off with the Time Machine Parts in front of the studio and she did much of the negotiation ("Are there any guys in here who can carry these Time Machine Parts? They're heavy!") while he circled the block many times looking for parking.

Steampunk? Yes? No. Rats!

Stacy's Story about the SteamPunk Box to Put Things In:

This is the first "steampunk/cyberpunk" thing I've made... I was going for a steampunk look, but then a couple people noticed that I'd included chips and electronic parts on it - and told me that it was NOT steampunk (with a sniff).

So - I'm offering it up, it's *almost* done, I just want to add a few more things.

It's a cute little box, but does have some pointy bits, so whoever gets it next will next to be a little careful.
