Mr. Ron Reid from The Comedy Underground offered me two copies of "Cook Like a Stud".
Here is his awesome story submission:
"I am offering two copies of Cook-Like-A-Stud* *38 lip smackin meals men can prepare in the garage. . . using their own tools
By Ross Shafer
Published in 1991
With a forward by Jeff The Frugal Gourmet Smith, a Seattle minister who became a TV star and alleged pedophile. No criminal charges were ever filed in the sex scandal, but a settlement was reached and Smiths TV career came to an abrupt end.
The book features photos of a very cut Ross Shafer in a Reebok tank top.
They were given to me in about 1992 or 93 by Ross.
Ross Shafer was a former ad man turned petshop owner turned standup comedian, who was the creator and original host of the KING-TV show Almost Live. Latter-day host John Keister was his sidekick, and Bill Nye The Science Guy one of the first sketch characters. In fact, Ross to this day claims to have written the Science Guy character for Bill Nye, who was an engineer for Boeing and Siemens and a moderately unsuccessful Seattle standup comedian.
Ross had one of the closes brushes with real fame of anybody I've ever known. He was, for about 6 months, the host of the the Fox network program The Late Show, replacing Joan Rivers. Fox tried a series of guest hosts after Rivers left the program, with the intention of giving the job to the host who did the best. It came down to Ross and Arsenio Hall. The job went to Arsenio (woof!woof!) and Ross went back to doing corporate shows and speaking engagements. He currently lives, I believe, in Grass Valley, CA and is a comedic motivational speaker. His current book, and topic of his talks, is Nobody Moved Your Cheese."
